OK, here are my recommended buys for May...

Make a slender frame bloom in stunning florals

Fashion’s crush on all things floral continues to blossom. This dress with its floral breezy print combined with this season’s freshest new colour pairing (navy and green) is modern, super-cool yet sophisticated.

The combination of botanical blooms and 1950s shape nips two of the season’s biggest looks in one easy bud. The fitted bodice and flared skirt will add instant hourglass curves to a slim frame and also balance out wider hips. For pears the collar adds a playful touch while adding curves, making the bust appear larger. You’ll certainly be the pick of the bunch…

Show off a little shoulder to balance out hips

This marvellous maxi from BHS could just be the perfect summer frock with its great (lengthening) length, silky (silhouette-slimming) fabric and striking print. You’ll segue effortlessly from desk to dinner, beach to bar and back round again. It’ll do dressy days in the city but pop on a floppy hat and sandals and it’ll say ‘hot’ holiday in no time.

And with some bare shoulder action the word ‘hot’ comes to mind. Seriously sexy – going naked (showing a little shoulder that is!) will also balance out a bigger bottom half and minimise your waist. The v-neck will up the glam ante as well as elongating and flattering the bust. The empire waist line will lengthen the torso as the soft billowing fabric deftly covers tummies and thighs.

Speedy spring glamour – marvellous indeed!

Frame your hourglass in print...

From polka dots to leopard spots the catwalks were packed with punchy patterns this season. The way to wear your prints is clashed which ought to set your teeth on edge but, as this ensemble from Dorothy Perkins shows, it can actually make your mouth water.

It works because the look is on the right side of ladylike with its simple, low-key silhouette-skimming shape (perfect for showing off hourglass curves) and cleverly toned down brights (the grey breaks down the saturation). The fitted skirt will gently caress your curves and the low round neckline will show off a buxom bust. The result is a sexy-yet-sophisticated grown-up look.

Complete the look with a skinny belt (to further celebrate those va va voom curves and focus in on the waist) and a slick of nail polish.

A grown up alternative to the LBD...

The 70s are having a big revival this season and this can mean one thing – the jumpsuit is back! But this season’s offerings are worth a look - with sleeker silhouettes, slinky fabrics they’re a whole lot sassier than their predecessors.

Get on your D.I.S.C.O shoes to the ready and channel your inner Studio 54 diva with this softly draped wide-legged number from AWear. It’s the perfect grown-up alternative to the LBD, giving you your own enviable standout style and IS the way to look sexy right now. The cowl neckline adds to the sensuality as well as volume to the bust and drawing eyes upwards. The all-in-one colour lengthens and the wider cut seductively covers heavier legs and thighs. A belt at the waist will enhance curves but keep it skinny and tonal so as not to loose height.

Edgy yet practical, sexy yet subverted and elegant yet modern. Definitely a beat we want to groove to…

Slinky Cowl Neck Jumpsuit

£40.00

Sizes 8-18

Tummy taming top will transform your look in an instant

This printed top from Wallis is just the ticket to instantly transform your look into a summer style statement. Simply slip it on to glam up a pair of jeans or trousers. The zesty shades will add a vibrant youthful flair while the print a fashion-forward touch. Low effort, high impact is definitely a band wagon we’d like to jump on!

And what is more, the v-neck line will elongate the torso and flatter a larger bust while the empire line shape will create an illusion of overall slimness and draw the eye away from your tummy. Maybe less orange and more for apple (shapes)!
